As evidenced by your opinionated aunt’s Facebook posts, separating yourself from election hoopla can prove challenging. Yes, it’s part of our civic duty to be informed and involved, but sometimes we want to find a magic button to turn off the banter.
Here are 3 ways to soothe stress from election season overload:
1. Grab Some Culture
Make like a campaign bus tour and hit the road! The east cost is full of world-class museums. Find your favorites and create a bucket list for fall. Visiting museums reduces anxiety, stress and can have the same effect on your well being as receiving a raise!
2. Head Outdoors
Simply getting outside can work wonders for your overall health and wellbeing. Bonus points for sweating! When you’re active, your brain releases endorphins and proteins that are associated with feelings of euphoria, and it doesn’t take long to start feeling them. Outdoor time has also been linked to sharper thinking and improved concentration.
3. Force a Smile
Fake it till’ you make it. Smiling, sincere or not, can decrease the production of stress-induced hormones. If forcing a smile seems impossible, surround yourself with friends or family. It’s difficult to frown if someone is smiling at you.
