Are your sweat sessions slacking this winter due to chilly New Jersey temperatures? As tempting as it is to skip the gym and relax in your PJs, there are plenty of reasons why you should stick to your exercise routine.
Not only will regular exercise help with your overall health, your teeth may benefit, too. Chronic conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes – diseases that may lead to oral health problems – tend to be less common in people who exercise regularly and maintain a healthy weight.
Maintaining an elevated heart rate for just half an hour can reduce your risks for a plethora of diseases. Here are 3 creative ways to get fit indoors this winter:
1.Create your own bootcamp.
Try this circuit: jumping jacks, lunges, high knees, push-ups, triceps dips (off a bench or curb), and sit-ups. Do each exercise for 60 to 90 seconds; rest in between exercises as needed. Repeat the circuit two or three times.
2.Try a treadmill interval workout.
Warm Up: Walk easily, then briskly: 5 minutes; Power walk: 2 minutes; Run fast (but don’t sprint): 4 minutes; Repeat Steps 1 & 2: 6 times; Cool Down: Walk easily: 4 minutes
3.Dance like no one’s watching.
Dancing makes for fun cardio, which is great for your heart. Plus, it can lift your spirits and smile, boosting your overall mood. Make a playlist with your favorite ‘jumpin jams and shake it!
Before starting an exercise routine, be sure to speak with your doctor. Regardless of how you choose to get fit, exercising is a surefire way to warm up your winter!
